Doug made this board especially for him. We ran out of long board blanks so he decided to make a heafty short one instead. Will have to let you know how rides after our surf trip this month.
I made the two boards on the left and doug made the two boards on the right. These have been ridden quite a bit and have wax on them so their not shiny and flawless anymore.
This is an old picture taken at Surfside Beach of my bro-n-law Paul and I. Notice the old beat up board! Hence, the reason for learning how to make my own boards!
My wife let me turn half of our garage into a surboard shop. That half is also split into two rooms, one for shaping and one for glassing. Thanks to Doug and Paul for helping me do this! I couldn't have completed it without you guys!
Just finished this board a few days ago. It's ready to surf! My buddies and I are taking a surftrip at the end of August so we'll do a little R&D while we're there.
A few years ago I was unsatisfied with my surfboard collection and decided that if I could make my own surfboards, I'd have as many as I wanted and not have to pay outrageous prices for them. I have always been the artist type, so I figured I could take on the challenge...and I did. Little did I understand at the time the work involved in making a surfboard until I watched the video on how to do it. Still, reality didn't set in until I actually shaped, glassed, and added graphics to one myself. After all the blood, sweat and tears were over I had myself a pretty decent board. Since then I (...and my two friends Doug and Paul) have been perfecting our skills through making several boards and are now gravitating toward creating a side business out of this hobby.
